the signs directing you to Manteo which take you across the bridge to
Roanoke Island. Go through the stop light at the foot of the bridge
and get in the right lane. Take a right at the next light and follow
the road to Manteo. Turn right on to Fernando Street (NC 400). You'll
see the Scarborough House Inn one block down on your left on the corner
of Fernando and Uppowac Streets.
From
the south: Take
either the Swan Quarter or Cedar Island toll ferry to Ocracoke (link
to ferry schedule here). Take the free ferry from Ocracoke to Hatteras
Island. Follow Hwy. 12 north to Nags Head, then follow the sign directing
you to the left to Manteo which take you across the bridge to Roanoke

After the bridge, you'll come to a stoplight at a major 4-way intersection; be in the most left-hand lane. Turn left at this light, following the signage you'll see toward Manteo. Continue on this road (which is still called U.S. 64) until you see the College of the Albemarle campus on your right. Directly past this campus, you'll come to Fernando Street (a.k.a. N.C. 400). Turn right onto Fernando and come down a block. You'll see the Scarborough House Inn on your left on the corner of Fernando and Uppowac streets.
From
the east: You can only boat in from this direction!
Use the Intracoastal Waterway or come through Oregon Inlet from the
Atlantic. When you dock in at Manteo, you're about two blocks from the
inn.
